Bricklaying Lecturer – Prison Education

Location: HMP Isle of Wight
Salary: Up to £38,144 per annum (depending on skills and experience)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, 52 weeks per year

This is a rewarding role where no two days are the same. You'll work with small groups of learners, helping them achieve City & Guilds Bricklaying qualifications up to Level 2 while developing the confidence and employability skills needed for successful reintegration into the workplace.

Full training and support will be provided for candidates looking to transition from industry into teaching.


The Role

As a Bricklaying Lecturer, you will:

  • Deliver engaging and practical Bricklaying lessons to learners within a prison environment.
  • Support learners through City & Guilds qualifications up to Level 2.
  • Create inspiring lesson plans tailored to individual learning needs.
  • Assess, monitor and record learner progress.
  • Set and review SMART targets to help learners achieve success.
  • Develop creative learning resources and teaching strategies.
  • Promote high standards of teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Encourage learners to build confidence, employability skills and positive attitudes towards work.
  • Maintain accurate learner records and course documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with prison staff and education colleagues to ensure positive learner outcomes.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Industry experience in Bricklaying.
  • Relevant vocational qualification in Bricklaying or Construction.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire learners from diverse backgrounds.
  • Commitment to helping individuals improve their education, skills and future employment prospects.

Desirable:

  • Teaching qualification such as PGCE, Cert Ed or DTLLS.
  • Assessing or Training qualifications.
  • Previous teaching, training or mentoring experience.
  • Experience delivering accredited vocational qualifications.

Candidates without a teaching qualification are encouraged to apply, as support may be available to work towards relevant teaching credentials.
